Peter
Singer
This
is a design for the Swedish edition of our favorite philosopher Peter
Singer’s latest book ’En värld’ (‘One
World’). For the cover of the book, which deals with the ethics
of globalization, we chose a photograph taken from the NASA satellite
‘Modis’ in June 2001. Over this image, a photograph taken
from the satellite ‘DMSP’ was silk screened with phosphorescent
ink. This image, shot during night, shows the light that emanates
from the cities of the Earth. When you put out your bedside lamp,
the phosphorescent ink clearly shows where the most urbanized areas
of the Earth is located. However, it doesn’t give a fair picture
of heavy population (compare for example Western Europe, USA and Japan
to India and China), giving you a reminiscence of what you’ve
just read in the book…
